meeting minutes 9/30

Here are tonight’s meeting minutes:

-Finalized details for fair: Nov. 12th in the Plaza of the Americas between 11am-2pm.
-May try to set up night before
-Contact ONE, Recurso, SVS (Aleks); Engineers without Borders, Global Empowerment (Laura); SGAC (Celeste); Pre-Pharm (Christina); Invisible Children (Caitlyn); Human Rights Awareness (Fatima)
-Contact all above groups to meet with us Oct. 14th at 6pm in Reitz to discuss fair ideas.
-Poster-making for researcher outreach: This Friday, Oct. 2nd. Contact Christina for more info/work out details
-Any other progress from reaching out to department secretaries? Caitlyn with contact Nutritional Sciences and Public Health College secretaries
-Need 10 more people for Gator Growl clean-up. Please ask your friends!
-Dr. Melker coming in November; Clinica Verde speaker coming but not sure when yet.

Ichetucknee Springs Social this Saturday!

Join your favorite group of UAEM-ers for a beautiful and relaxing float down the Ichetuknee!

We’ll meet on campus to carpool at 10am- just bring your swimsuit, $5.00 to enter the park, and maybe some sunscreen! If you’d like to tube, you can bring your own tube (awesome animal shaped ones are highly encouraged) or rent one on the way for about $5.

Rx for Survival: A Global Health Challenge

Come to the Orange and Brew this Tuesday for a screening of “Rx for Survival”, an enlightening PBS documentary which touches on many important issues within global health and access to medicines. Plus, we’ll have some delicious free food!

Here is an overview of what we went over at today’s meeting (9/9/09):

-social on Saturday, Sept. 26th. Meet on campus at 10am… will discuss on further detail in coming weeks.
-Reitz tabling: Thurs. (9/10); Aleks and Laura: 11-1; Anna and Christina: 12-2
Friday (9/11): Elon: 11-11.30; Christina: 11.30-1; Celeste: 1-2
-Film screening Sept. 15th at Orange & Brew, 6pm.

-Oct. 16th- clean up after Gator Growl
-look up seminars for dep’t: CLAS- Kyle; Ag- Kaitlyn; Neuroscience- Chirag
-speakers for this semester ? looking into CC speakers, also some promising local ones… Clinica Verde speaker possible

First General Meeting!

Our first meeting of the semester is tomorrow, 9/9/09, at 6:00 pm in Reitz 362. We’ll start the meeting off by explaining some issues relevant to UAEM’s mission for the newcomers, and then move on to our plans for the semester. Come learn how you can get involved with our campaign to make UF’s essential technologies more accessible in the developing world!
